Site Emissions Profiling and SurveysProtea uses the same range of instrumental technologies (FTIR, FID, MS, Flow) for emissions profiling and emissions surveys on sites. The main difference is the composition of the emission is generally not known in detail before the start of the project and may not be known at all.
In this case the FTIR approach is a very powerful technique to use, as it offers many advantages:
- Monitors can left monitoring continuously including overnight. This makes it easy to investigate processes such as batch reactions with widely varying releases, or processes that have an unpredictable release.
- FTIR captures spectra that can be analysed subsequently. Consequently the technique is suitable for identifying unknown mixtures and it is not necessary to know target analytes before monitoring. Spectra can be archived and checked for other components at any time in the future.
- By measuring flow continuously alongside FTIR concentrations, it is possible to construct profiles of kg/hr - the true measure of emission.
